In the Black Forest follows the journey of my late pet parakeet, which died on the day my family broke apart. A metaphorical coming-of-age story, a bird, after falling from its nest, travels through a forest that is both threatening and benevolent, and altogether mysterious. Following the spectral teardrop that her mother left her, the bird discovers a secret of the forest. The story is told wordlessly through a combination of fluid sand animation and stop motion. Richly symbolic, the film portrays the ideas of premature departure from home, the rites-of-passage and finding universal wisdom.
