Africa is full of nature’s colors. A colorful experience! The social, political and economical problems of the continent, however, are unsaturated. Neither black nor white, but endless gray. "Africa Light" - as white local citizens call Namibia. The name suggests romance, the beauty of nature and promises a life without any problems in a country where the difference between rich and poor could hardly be greater. Namibia does not give that impression of it. If you look at its surface it seems like Africa in its most innocent and civilized form. It is a country that is so inviting to dream by its spectacular landscape, stunning scenery and fascinating wildlife. It has a very strong tourism structure and the government gets a lot of money with its magical attraction. But despite its grandiose splendor it is an endless gray zone as well. It oscillates between tradition and modernity, between the cattle in the country and the slums in the city. It shuttles from colonial times, land property reform to minimum wage for everyone. It fluctuates between socialism and cold calculated market economy. The primitive people of the country are recently available for sale. They perish as a tourist attraction in an entertainment park of the First World. The progress is entering. The film "Africa Light - Gray Zone" tells the story of a country, which is a representative of a whole continent and its development. And finally this even the story of our entire world.

Afrika's Natur ist voller Farbenpracht. Ein kunterbuntes Erlebnis! Die gesellschaftlichen, politischen und wirtschaftlichen Probleme des Kontinents jedoch sind ungesättigt. Weder schwarz noch weiß, viel mehr endlos grau. "Africa Light"- so nennen die weißen Einheimischen Namibia. Der Name suggeriert Romantik, Schönheit der Natur und Problemlosigkeit in einem Land, in dem der Unterschied zwischen Arm und Reich kaum größer sein kann. Namibia macht jedoch nicht den Eindruck dessen. Oberflächlich betrachtet wirkt es wie Afrika in seiner harmlosesten und zivilisiertesten Form. Es ist ein Land, das durch eine dermaßen eindrucksvolle landschaftliche Kulisse und faszinierende Fauna zum Träumen einlädt. Das über eine sehr ausgeprägte Tourismus-Struktur verfügt und viel Geld mit seiner magischen Anziehungskraft verdient. Aber ist trotz seiner grandiosen Pracht eine endlose Grauzone. Es pendelt zwischen Tradition und Moderne, zwischen Viehzucht auf dem Land und Verslumung in der Stadt, zwischen Kolonialisierung, Landreform und Mindesteinkommen für jedermann, zwischen Sozialismus und eiskalt berechneter Marktwirtschaft. Die Urvölker des Landes stehen unlängst zum Ausverkauf. Sie verkommen als touristische Attraktion in einem Entertainmentpark der Ersten Welt. Der Fortschritt hält Einzug. Der Film “Africa Light – Gray Zone“ erzählt die Geschichte eines Landes, das repräsentativ für einen ganzen Kontinent und dessen Entwicklung steht. Letztlich ist aber genauso eine Geschichte über unsere Welt.

Nature de l'Afrique est pleine de couleur. Une expérience bariolée! Les problèmes sociaux, politiques et économiques du continent, cependant, sont insaturés. Ni noir ni blanc, beaucoup plus sans fin grise. «Africa Light» – comme les habitants blancs appelle la Namibie. Le nom suggère la romance, la beauté de la nature et sans problèmes dans un pays où l'écart entre les riches et les pauvres ne pouvait guère être plus grande. La Namibie ne fait pas cette impression.
