Influenced in part by the aesthetic of Japanese director Akira Kurosawa, Overcast is a dark, ironic, existential tale of life, death and twisted turns of “fate” set against a backdrop of autumn colours and tranquility. A man falls off the roof of his country home. His wife pulls him onto the back of a truck and drives frantically towards the nearest clinic for help. Unbeknownst to the woman, the body is lost along the way. In a chain of absurd events and cover-ups the body is repeatedly "killed" until it eventually reaches the clinic. In this Black comedy the hectic pace of modern life contrasts the serenity of autumn landscape. Superimposed against the calmness of Nature, a sky overcast with gray clouds bodes the inescapable lot of the human condition. The leaves are falling and eventually it starts to snow amidst a thunderstorm. In counterpoint to this setting the characters are subjected to seemingly normal and innocent incidents, which quickly develop into ridiculously impossible situations.
