For the past hundred years we’ve built our cities and roads, factories and dams, even farms wherever we’ve wanted to, our engineering often triumphing over the natural lay of the land. With climate change and an impending worldwide water crisis, we find ourselves forced to take another look at the effects of this rampant industrialization. Nowhere is this battle better revealed than in Los Angeles, a dream city turned into nightmare sprawl. And nothing epitomizes man’s efforts to reshape the face of the earth better than the LA River: used, abused and forgotten, it is now at the center of a major vision to transform this cemented metropolis into a sustainable model city of the 21st century.
But when a governmental agency decides that the LA River is not worthy of environmental protection, a biologist becomes a whistle blower, a satirical writer takes to his oars, and together they change the course of history in a local controversy of national proportions.
From the heart of Los Angeles comes 'Rock the Boat' - a film about one man's fight to save his river, and a city's journey to the end of the world and back.
