Matteûs 10 : 28 is a short film about Hel. Hel is a small town on the very edge of a 30 kilometer peninsula in the Baltic Sea in Poland. In Dutch Hel has a double meaning, in Polish Hel is just Hel. I myself travelled to Hel (just by public transport) and I stayed for a while to experience the place, to return from Hel afterwards. It was a bit extinct, it had a lot of prohibition signs and its inhabitants were quite negative disposed. I did send them a inquery which anticipated the meaning of Hel as ‘hell’. I also interviewed people about life in Hel, how they got to be there, whether they thought they deserved to stay there and whether they expected to leave Hel sometime. Many had left Hel and many others had the intention to leave, if only they had the opportunity...
